The End-of-Summer Bucket List for RV & Boat Owners: What to Do Before Fall Arrives
Summer isn't over yet.
There are still weekends to spend on the water, campsites to visit, and plenty of Colorado sunshine left to enjoy. But as August comes to an end, it's also a great time for RV and boat owners to get a few things checked off the list before fall arrives.
Think of it less as packing up for the season and more as an end-of-summer reset.
A little cleaning, organizing, inspecting, and restocking now can help you enjoy the rest of your summer adventures while making the transition into fall much easier. Here are a few things worth adding to your end-of-summer bucket list.
1. Give Everything a Good End-of-Summer Clean
After a summer of road trips, campgrounds, lake days, dusty roads, and outdoor adventures, your RV or boat has probably collected a little evidence of all that fun.
Before another season rolls around, give everything a thorough cleaning.
For RV owners, that might mean washing the exterior, cleaning windows, vacuuming the interior, wiping down cabinets, and finally getting to those forgotten corners that have accumulated dirt throughout the summer.
For boat owners, rinse and clean the hull, deck, seating, compartments, and other frequently used areas. Make sure everything is completely dry before closing compartments back up.

Restocking now means you're ready for those last-minute late-summer and early-fall adventures without another frantic trip to the store.
4. Do a Midseason Safety Check
You've probably put some miles on your RV or trailer this summer, and your boat and trailer may have made quite a few trips to and from the water.
Before heading into fall, take a few minutes to look over the basics.
For an RV or travel trailer, inspect tires for visible wear or damage and check tire pressure according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Look over exterior lights, connections, seals, steps, awnings, and other frequently used components.
Boat owners should inspect both the boat and trailer. Check trailer tires, lights, straps, winches, safety chains, and other equipment you rely on every time you tow.
You don't necessarily need to turn this into a major maintenance weekend. The goal is simply to catch the small things now before they have the opportunity to become bigger problems later.
5. Check Your Emergency and First-Aid Supplies
Emergency kits are easy to pack once and forget about.
Unfortunately, they're also filled with things that get used, expire, or disappear throughout the season.
Open up your first-aid and emergency kits and make sure they're still ready when you need them.
Replace expired or used supplies, test flashlights, check batteries, and make sure important safety equipment is still where you expect it to be.
For boat owners, this is also a good opportunity to check life jackets and other required safety equipment. The U.S. Coast Guard recommends checking that life jackets are properly sized, in good condition, and readily accessible whenever you're on the water. For RV owners, review your roadside emergency supplies and make sure you're prepared for unexpected stops.
6. Make a "Fix It Later" List and Actually Fix It
You know that cabinet latch that's been annoying you since June?
Or the loose handle, sticky compartment, flickering light, missing hook, worn strap, or other tiny issue you've been saying you'll deal with eventually?
Eventually has arrived.
Walk through your RV or boat and make a quick list of all the little things you've noticed throughout the summer. Then tackle what you can or schedule repairs for anything that requires professional attention.
Small fixes are much easier to deal with when you're not trying to leave for a trip the next morning.
7. Clean Out the Summer Extras
At the beginning of summer, packing your RV or boat with everything you might need probably seemed like a great idea.
By August, you know what you actually used.
Remove unnecessary extras that have been taking up valuable space all season. That might be duplicate kitchen supplies, extra clothes, unused sporting equipment, empty containers, forgotten toys, or gear that belongs somewhere else.
Less clutter means easier access to the things you actually use and less time digging through compartments every time you need something.
8. Get Ready for Fall Adventures
End-of-summer organization doesn't have to mean the adventures are ending.
In Colorado, fall can be one of the best times to get outside. Cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and fewer peak-summer crowds can make September and October perfect for another road trip or weekend away.
